high Closure

Multiple Acadia trails closed for falcon nesting season

Jordan Cliffs Trail, Penobscot East Trail, Precipice Trail, and Valley Cove Trail are closed starting March 1 to protect nesting peregrine falcons. The Precipice Trail parking lot is also closed, and rangers enforce closures strictly.

What visitors should know: Plan alternate hikes as several popular Acadia trails and the Precipice parking lot remain closed through nesting season.
medium Alert

Swimming prohibited at Sand Beach Lagoon due to bacteria

High bacterial levels at Sand Beach Lagoon exceed public health standards, prompting a swimming advisory. This applies only to the lagoon, not the main Sand Beach.

What visitors should know: Avoid water contact at Sand Beach Lagoon until the advisory is lifted; the main Sand Beach remains open.
How this works: Maine Right Now automatically monitors official sources โ€” MaineDOT / New England 511 (traffic & closures), the National Park Service (Acadia), and Maine.gov โ€” and summarizes only the high-impact items that affect current-season travel. Alerts clear automatically once the closure is lifted. Always confirm with the linked official source before you travel.
