Kennebunkport is one of Maine's more upscale coastal towns, so the choice is mostly how close you want to be to the walkable center and the water versus how much you want to spend. Here's how the areas compare, plus when to book.

Best Areas to Stay in Kennebunkport

Dock Square

Best for: First-timers and couples who want to walk to shops and dinner

The compact village heart — galleries, restaurants, and boat tours a few steps from the water, with grand inns nearby. Walkable and central, and the priciest, busiest part of town in summer.

Cape Arundel / Ocean Avenue

Best for: Oceanfront resorts and scenic drives

The rocky shoreline road past the estates and the Bush compound, home to some of the town's premier oceanfront inns and resorts. Beautiful and the most expensive; a short drive or walk to Dock Square.

Lower Village (Kennebunk side)

Best for: Better value within walking distance

Just across the bridge on the Kennebunk side, with more motels and mid-range rooms — you can still walk to Dock Square, usually for less than staying right in it.

Goose Rocks Beach

Best for: Families who want a quiet beach

A calm, walkable sand beach about 10 minutes northeast with cottages and vacation rentals — the pick for families who'd rather have the beach than the village bustle.

What It Costs & When to Book

Kennebunkport runs pricey in summer, and the grand oceanfront inns are a splurge — the map above shows live prices for your dates. The Lower Village (Kennebunk side) and nearby Kennebunk motels are the value plays, and shoulder-season rates drop noticeably.

The season runs roughly May through October, peaking in summer and again for foliage. Winter is very quiet and many businesses close — the big exception is Christmas Prelude in early December, a festive weekend that draws visitors and books up early.
