The richness and drama of the 19th century open our season with “Journey to the Romantic Era.” Discover Louise Farrenc’s Overture No. 1 in E minor, a vibrant work that blends the grandeur of the French overture with bold textures and orchestral contrasts. Experience the warmth and elegance of Johannes Brahms’s Symphony No. 3 in F major, celebrated for its deliberate, lean orchestration, and reflective endings to each movement. This exciting program also features Visiting Assistant Professor of Music Keer Wang performing Sergei Rachmaninoff’s thrilling Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor, a work that secured his standing as a concerto composer and continues to be one of his most widely loved pieces.
